Which Social Media Platform Should My Business Be On?

ree

If you're a business owner, you've probably spent hours and hours pondering this question. Should my online business marketing go on Instagram? Facebook? Twitter? Snapchat? Pinterest? YouTube? Should I have a blog, too? The answer is... maybe.

It's not as simple as jumping onto every platform that exists and shouting your message from the rooftops, because different demographics use different social media platforms for different reasons. You might be able to reach the right people through a specific channel, but only if you understand who those people are and how those channels work.

That's why we're going to break down some of the more popular social media platforms (and one less-popular one) so that you can make an informed decision about where your brand fits in.

Should my business be on Instagram?

Instagram is a visual platform. That means you’ll want to use the photo-sharing app to showcase the products or services you offer, as well as your team and office space. However, this is not a platform that you ONLY want to promote your products or services on. The social media marketing strategy for your business on Instagram is entirely different from other platforms!

Instagram is the platform you want to engage on the most when utilizing it to gain followers that actually want to follow a business profile. Ultimately, you want to convert a good portion of that audience into customers. Right? Well then you MUST begin creating reels that contain a strong call-to-action in the caption. And DO NOT do that on every post!

On Instagram, you want to engage, educate, and entertain in order to make your profile interesting enough to people that will want more of what you have to deliver.

Some people get discouraged easily when marketing their business on Instagram because they’re more focused on vanity metrics than converting their audience into customers. Big mistake! # of likes and views do not convert to sales. That only brings in the eyes and then it's up to you to trigger the emotion that will make them click for more. That's why buying followers is the worst mistake you can make for your Instagram profile.

Fake followers = non-existent sales. So if your mission on there is to look like you have that many followers, that's something to discuss with a Therapist. That may be a childhood trauma because you weren't popular in high school.

Since Instagram is usually used on mobile devices, consider posting photos that are high resolution and easy to view while scrolling through your feed.

Should my business be on Facebook?

Facebook is the most popular social media platform, with 1.5 billion monthly active users. It's a great place to build a community, share photos, run ads to drive sales, and connect with customers.

Facebook allows you to:

  • Interact with your audience and subscribers by posting updates on their feeds

  • Send messages directly to fans or groups of fans

  • Create a Facebook page for your business (and if you have time) other related pages as well (e.g., "Best for Less")

Facebook also enables you to:

  • Share photos and videos from other sites like Instagram or YouTube (with permission)

  • Create events around special occasions like birthdays or anniversaries host quizzes that allow people within the group to win prizes (because nothing builds loyalty quite like free stuff!)

Should my business be on Twitter?

Twitter is the place to connect with your audience and share your brand voice. It’s also a great platform for posting content, whether you choose to share articles or links to blog posts.

Twitter is ideal if you have an audience that’s interested in what you have to say (and even more so if you can keep it interesting).

Your followers will be interested in hearing about updates and sales, but don’t force them into a long-winded sales pitch; instead, use Twitter as another way to interact with them on a personal level.

For example, use Twitter as a way of building relationships by responding directly when someone tweets at you or mentioning them in one of your own tweets. You should also engage with other influencers on the platform—this may lead somewhere! And don't forget about sharing useful content from across the web—you never know who may find it useful!

Should my business be on Snapchat?

Snapchat is the fastest-growing social media platform, and for good reason.

The content you share on Snapchat can be highly engaging and entertaining, especially when you’re sharing behind-the-scenes footage or short clips from events.

Snapchat also has a native feature called filters that allow users to add graphics, text and other visuals to their photos before they post them. This allows businesses to easily create branded messages using custom images and filters—which makes it easy for your followers to remember your brand whenever they see one of these posts!

Should my business be on Pinterest?

If you're looking to drive traffic to your website, there's no better place than Pinterest. According to a study conducted by the social media research team at Sprout Social (formerly Iconosquare), 82% of pinners say they visit Pinterest for inspiration when deciding what products or services to buy.

That same study also found that 50% of people who follow brands on Pinterest plan on making a purchase in the future from those brands, which can mean more eyes on your business page and more potential customers for you.

Another reason why it's crucial for businesses to be active on Pinterest is because it helps build brand awareness and establish credibility as an authority in their industry. First off, users will see how many followers you have when they visit your profile page—and since most people think "more = better," this signals credibility and trustworthiness immediately!

Secondly, users can quickly glance through all of your pins without even going into each individual post by using "Pinterest amazon" search terms like "bestselling book" or "top selling product." This gives them additional information about what makes YOU special before ever having clicked over into one single post—and again shows that YOU know what you're talking about when they do finally click through!

Should my business be on YouTube?

If you're passionate about video, and your brand has a story to tell, YouTube is the place to be.

It's no surprise that video content is on the rise: it's more engaging for users; it keeps people on your site longer; and it improves SEO (search engine optimization) results.

What may surprise you is just how popular videos are with consumers. According to data from Google's 2016 study "Digital insights report," more than 1 billion unique viewers watch video content on YouTube every month—more than any other site in existence! And this number doesn't even include mobile views—which are also rising rapidly thanks to smartphones' large screens and always-connected status.

In addition to its sheer popularity among consumers, YouTube has some other important qualities that make it an ideal platform for businesses:

  • It’s easy to get started with free tools like screen casting or green screen apps that allow you create high quality videos without investing big bucks upfront (a great option if your startup budget is tight).

  • You can easily share your videos on other social media channels such as Facebook or Twitter without spending additional hours editing them down into smaller clips first.

  • There are millions of potential viewers out there who may not yet know about your business but would love what you have offer once they find out about it through one of these “freebie” artistic pieces!

Where else might my business fit in?

If you're looking to go beyond the basics of social media, here are some other platforms that may fit your business.

  • LinkedIn's demographic is more professional and higher income than Facebook or Twitter. It's also a great place to find leads and connect with people in person at events like Inbound, which you can attend for free if you sign up as a student or guest.

  • Quora allows users to ask questions about anything and get them answered by experts in the field. You could create an account and start answering questions about your industry or topic of expertise—and include links back to your website or blog when appropriate!

  • Reddit has different subgroups (called subreddits) for almost every topic under the sun—including business advice subreddits such as /r/Entrepreneur (over 600K subscribers) and /r/SmallBusiness (over 200K subscribers). If your company deals with any kind of customer service issue, this would be worth checking out!

  • Slack is another type of social media platform; it lets users post updates into channels where specific groups can then interact with one another around those posts. It's best used for conversations between teams working together on projects rather than companies talking directly with customers/users; however, it does let users post links so others can easily see what else is going on across multiple channels at once without having to constantly switch back between tabs by themselves every time they want something else new from others around them . . . which means there could be potential here if we wanted our customers' feedback while also allowing them quick access elsewhere too instead!

The right social media channel for your business is the one your audience uses most.

The right social media channel for your business is the one where your audience is. It’s as simple as that.

If you sell product, Instagram is going to be more effective than Snapchat because more people are on Instagram, and they tend to actually use it more frequently. If you want to drive traffic off of your website and into an online store, Facebook is the best option because it has an enormous number of users who actually visit their pages instead of just scrolling through their feed like a zombie (like I do).

Now let's talk about goals: How do we define success? What's our goal? If it's purely brand awareness or getting people excited about our latest product launch, then maybe Pinterest would be a better choice for us than Twitter because Pinterest users are typically persuaded to leave their boards (or check out other boards), whereas Twitter users are likely on the platform primarily for news related topics or live events like sports games or award shows.

Conclusion

In order to be successful with social media marketing, you must first know what your customers are looking for and then provide it to them! To do this effectively, it’s important that you learn how to market your business on the different social channels in order to determine which one(s) best match with your business's objectives.

It's also important not just to post content randomly onto these platforms; instead, develop a strategic plan so that you don't waste valuable time creating posts without any context or purpose. Share relevant information about who they are as people and what they can expect from you when they come into contact with your brand (or product) online.
